Thursday is Butterfly Day Giveaway! Post your butterfly photos or artwork for a chance to win Steem Basic Income Shares. Here are my photos for this week of the Red-spotted Purple.

The Red-spotted Purple looks similar to the Spicebush Swallowtail but is smaller and does not have tails. It has a wing span of 3-3.5 inches. The upper side of the wings are black and blue, and the underside have orange spots. No one is sure why it is called "red-spotted."

You know how I like to capture my subject's face. YAY!

Males and females look the same but females are larger than the males. They like to feed on tree sap, fermenting fruit and dung but they can also be found sipping nectar from flowers occassionally. This one likes the nectar from Queen Anne's Lace flowers.
