Power

An industrial giant is about to fall. The Navajo generating plant in Page Arizona USA is scheduled to close next year because our government favors corporate profit and enriching politicians over the Lively hoods of its struggling citizens.

The closure this power plant and its associated Kayenta coal mine will create a financial catastrophe for the Navajo Nation. It's sad and pathetic our soul less government authorities are totally careless about ruining lives. They only care about money not people. There is no honor or decency only corruption. I love this dear state of Arizona but feel pity for those despicable people that are in control.

These people are bought and paid for one way or another.

This is looking like very strong thing

Yes and I say strong to last long.

Neat shot! And yeah as much as I think we shoulda been off of that kind of technology years ago it's still helping a lot of people so that's a shame. Government doesn't really seem to care much about us they just seem to care about how much they can cobtrol us.

Changing our infrastructure to renewable energy is going to take time. Thanks Paul!

That's very bad my friend. Every government just thought about money but people are the main asset of any nation so government should be more conscious about it.

I totally agree, that's also true when it comes to running a business. Thanks my friend.

I think it's very harmful for nature.

Yes true, we need to phase in clean energy and do it with respect.

That is very unfortunate for the Navajo people. It is never good when people lose their livelihoods. Is it possible that the government is not only considering money in this particular situation though? You said that it was a power plant that uses coal which puts significant amounts of carbon and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere and is contributing to the warming of the planet. 200 countries around the world have agreed to reduce their carbon emissions in order to preserve the planet. Perhaps this faction of the US has decided to join that initiative in hopes of preserving our planet and our species. Perhaps in this case people are being considered above money and profit despite the unfortunate fact that a group of people are nonetheless effected. Just something to think about

Air pollution is not a determining issue with regards to this situation. However I understand the need to transition to clean energy but how you do something is equally important. I don't think we should trade one problem for another because were in a hurry and we have to respect our people at the same time.

Arizona is on the forefront of large scale solar energy.
Solana Generating Station. The Solana Generating Station is a solar power plant near Gila Bend, Arizona, about 70 miles (110 km) southwest of Phoenix, completed in 2013. When commissioned it was the largest parabolic trough plant in the world and the first U.S. solar plant with molten salt thermal energy storage.

Also this is quite interesting' highly toxic air enters the west coast of the US after crossing the pacific ocean compliments of Asia.

An outpouring of fugitive dust layered with man-made sulfates, smog, industrial fumes, carbon grit, and nitrates is crossing the Pacific Ocean on prevailing winds from booming Asian economies in plumes so vast they alter the climate. Almost a third of the air over Los Angeles and San Francisco can be traced directly to Asia. With it comes up to three-quarters of the black carbon particulate pollution that reaches the West Coast.
This kinda scares me! Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

Thanks for the additional info.

how you do something is equally important.

I agree with that. My personal opinion is that the issues we are seeing with the climate are the most important issue of our time and that there is still time to make corrections and progress our species forward. The planets biosphere adapts to changing environments slower than the changes that we are creating with the climate so the impact can be devastating very quickly and unexpectedly if left unchecked. Aside from extreme weather instances and increasing numbers of forest fires around the world, a big concern is food crops. If temperatures increase only a few degrees then the concern is for our food crops. One or two bad years of food production would send many nations into chaos simply because there wouldn't be enough food to feed everyone. Thats a bit of a doom and gloom scenario but I think its better to be aware of it and proactive in preventing it while we have the chance. But again, the situation is obviously very complex in that livelihoods affected by technological progress are also a factor. Balance is important in transitioning periods.
I was not aware of the solar plants in Arizona. But that is very interesting.

Sounds good, Thanks again!

Hello @irvinesimages, governments make decisions that adapt to them, only this matters

Hello Martha, I agree and we should always question the motives.

Unfortunately, there are inhuman human beings, they do not care about the damage they do, they only care about the money. luck in the bw photo contest.

Thanks Liznella for your input, you are right! You may have similar problems where you live. Thank you!
