Hillcrest United Church In Summer

This church has an interesting history. It was physically moved a distance of six miles, from Valleyfield to it’s present location.

The original Church was cut into five sections, loaded on large trailers and hauled to this site, reassembled and enlarged.

When the United Church of Canada was established in 1925, several Methodist and Presbyterian churches in the surrounding area of Montague, Prince Edward Island, joined the new denomination.

To accommodate all the congregation and keep it more centralized, In 1971, the Valleyfield United Church building was moved from its original location to the Wood Islands Hill in Montague and renamed the Hillcrest United Church.

Thanks For The Visit! Enjoy Your Day!

I love the story behind the church.

MOving it would have involved some real effort and care.

Cool photography

Thanks @emjoe. It would have been a tremendous task. Being wooden probably made it easier to move and reconstruct.

I think so.

Keep steeming :)

2nd shot is my favorite! Nice shot dear!

Thanks @maruharraca. I’m glad you like it.

Truly amazing and pretty cool!! Good luck on the contest Jo! I love the photos and the story!! ❤

Thanks Dee. Appreciate your kindnesss and support. ❤️

You're very welcome!!

Isn't it amazing how moody and atmospheric a photo can become by turning it into a b&w? Even the shadow that one part of the church makes on another of its faces... it's virtually unseen in the color version, but really stands out in the b&w.
Good job!

Thanks @bananamemos. Happy to see you must be holding your age and haven’t been made into banana bread. 🍞 😊 Seriously, thanks for stopping by. Good eye to see the shadow.

We of the Banana Collective are eternally in stasis, incapable of spoiling. 😁

What an impressive looking church @redheadpei I love the overall shape of it and how well it is placed on the corner of that road.

It does look impressive when I pass it each time i go into Montague. Thanks Trudy. 😊

I love hearing the history behind the photos. I have always been intrgued by the way buildings are moved. My husband used to work for a company that had to go take down internet fiber optics lines to let houses through as they were being moved. The process can take so much more than we can even imagine. How crazy that they moved it, even having to separate it like that. Great photos!

Thanks @byn. I’m glad you liked the story. It would have been a massive undertaking to move this huge church. Must have been less expensive than starting from scratch to build a new one. 😊 ⛪

Excellent shots, the second is my favourite! Good luck in the contest! Resteemed :)

Thanks so much Keith @keithboone. Appreciated! 😊

The white beauty....great shot

It's a beautiful building!
