Nature - oil painting

In this painting I have re - used an old canvas I had where an experiment hadn't come to fruition. Recycled.... I decided to paint some pebbles firstly. Then I took the notion to partly submerge them and to show some reflected sky in the process. I then thought I would do a mix of reflected branches and shadows from trees and let some rocks show through the surface of the water. Just to make my life interesting!!!! I have never tried anything like this before so although not perfect I feel I at least achieved the desired technique for future wonderfully coloured scenes of reflection and reflected shadow on water with a slightly translucent surface to show a hint of detail below the surface. I intend to travel around Northern Ireland in the summer and practice some photography with my new Nikon camera and hopefully get some really useful reference pictures to work with along the lines of this project. As you can see I have attached some photos of the process to try and show the journey that the painting took to get to where it is. Some pictures may not be of the best quality apologies in advance but I have to take them while the paint is still wet in some cases and at night so as you can imagine with oil paints and glazes light reflecting off the picture can be an issue. The painting was painted over a few days with drying times included and paints used were Micheal harding. Glaze on first layers below and last layers above the water were achieved with liquin original Ultramarine, transparent red and transparent yellow and the water glaze was done with liquin original and zinc white mixed with cerulean blue and Ultramarine.
