Here I took a snapshot of the 6th of October in Cairo. I was just over the Nile, the longest river in Africa with a length of 6671 km.
The bridge of 6th October is a highway-like elevated road in Cairo, Egypt. It connects the city with Cairo Airport, which is 20 km away. The bridge was opened in 1996 after a construction period of 30 years. The most important section is one of its two crossings of the Nile. This bridge, built under the participation of the German Dywidag, is 141 meters long and has 2 × 5 lanes. Overall, the bridge is 21 kilometers long. The name of the bridge refers to the day of the outbreak of the Yom Kippur war on October 6, 1973.
The bridge is used daily by more than half a million people. The journey from one end to the other takes up to 45 minutes.
During protests in Egypt in February 2011, the clashes ranged from Tahrir Square to the bridge ramp on the east side of the Nile.
