Some photos from Munich Viktualienmarkt carnival shows
My second entry for this year's carnival in Southern Bavaria.
Let me introduce the carnival club "Heidechia Eching" again of which you already learned in the carnival music post.
"Welcome speech" by the board of the club:
A glimpse of the first dance:
The so-called Prince and Princess of the group (and this season) have their special dance ...
... followed by a piece inspired by the Lord of the Dance main theme. Yes, they even imitated flute play and wore tap dance shoes.
The Latin dance number:
Group photo:
The band's playing ...
The stage had been installed at Viktualienmarkt as always. Time to take a shot of the so-called Maibaum which - unlike most others - is not changed regularly (as far as I know).
The second group I happened to see came from Germering (which might be of interest for @backinblackdevil). They referred to themselves as "Show dance group Fun Unlimited" (see the banner in the back) and had a men ballet dancing group even. It's hard to tell who did a better job: Heidechia or Fun Unlimited. Men ballet dancing is just a classic in German carnival and they did soooo very well ...
Their topic was "dancing through the night". There's no carnival dance show without lifting and turning routines.
End of the second piece:
"Men at work" - they had a piece of their own. No, this is not the ballet group yet.
The fourth piece of the show:
Prince and Princess:
Another night time dance:
It's finally morning time - and more lifts are due.
Finally the men can show their ballet and carnival dance skills.
And that's it for Fun Unlimited dance group!
After a short break the dancing marketender women and their choreographer Christian were called in. Those women are real shop owners or employees at Viktualienmarkt. They are using their rare spare time to train new dances - some are part of the group for up to 30 years! Actually their main dance is on Tuesday (means: I missed it today) and they are not showing this year's costumes before that date! Therefore they wore 60ies themed dresses again. :)
Dancing Sirtaki!
A special act needs a special announcement!
Those flags are not a special part of Bavarian carnival club culture but of a tradition of all clubs in (Upper) Bavaria.
This year's Prince and Princess of Munich's carnival club.
Unfortunately I had to leave at that time.
