Visiting my favorite toy in Gmünd, Austria

in #cars6 years ago

After a day of driving through woad works, instead of ending up in Salzburg, I found myself in Schleching.
A small village of Schleching is somewhere on the GER-AUT border. It's lovely, with nicely painted buildings and worth spending a day, but no more than that.

Anyway, with a bit ruined timing, I decided to cross the whole Austria using free beautiful, curvy roads and exit via Wurzenpaß.

If you are wondering why, it's because I like the view from Pension Milka.

And... On the road in the middle of nowhere from nowhere to nowhere... There is a small Porsche Museum in Gmünd (in Kärnten).

Inside the Museum

For me, this is the best car that you will see in the Museum.
This was my favourite toy car. Actually, my favourite was 935 painted in green, sponsored by Valliant.
This one is 935/76, car that competed in endurance races.

All imaginable Porsche 356

One of 50...

What you see here is Porsche 906, one of only 50 produced street-legal racing cars.

The car weighed only 580 kg and performed well on 1966 LeMans ending behind (three) Ford GT40.

To visit or not to visit?

Should you cross Austria - Yes!!!, absolutely! You will spend 5-6 hours driving through the sceneries from the postcards. My shoulders hurt as hell after too much wrestling with my Alfa. I regret nothing, of course.

Gmünd is nice. There is everything you need: large market, museum and castle.

Museum itself, well, if you are passing by - visit it.
I didn't like the fact that cars are very tightly packed. The lighting is poor and the rope barriers are pointless. They are not protecting the cars, they are only ruining the photos.

There are some great looking machines in that Museum my friend, cheers.
