KITTY CAM * Study

in #cats6 years ago

A video camera study was done on 26 feral cats. The cats went through TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release) program and released back to their home on a barrier Island in Southeastern USA, with kittycams attached to them.

It showed they rested or slept 90% of the time. Nine percent was roaming around with the last one percent split between eating and drinking at their feeding station or hunting. More than 645 hours of video was looked at.

This suggested Domestic cats were more active than this colony of feral cats.

Wow! I had no idea - except that my teenage cat keeps sending my paperwork all over the universe; I guess it's like jumping into a pile of leaves.

Oh to be young and leaf rolling. :-)

that's a great finding.. that domestic cats are actually more active.

This is just one study on an isolated island with probably little stress. I'm sure alley cats are more attentive.

This is really interesting, i've often wondered what my cats get up to on there outings, and how far they roam. I would love to stick a small video camera on them so I can spy.

There was a show on TV that showed cats at night and day with a kitty cam . Was very informative and entertaining.

Ooh, i'll have to look out for that, thanks.

Well, that's interesting... we've got one here that's definitely towards the INactive end of the scale, and one who's on the go... a LOT.

=^..^=

Considering cats spend like 18 hours a day sleeping, not too surprising. Interesting none the less

I like the kitty cam idea.

That is an awesome initiative.

Proof that cats are lazy.
