Most domestic cats within a household are regarded as random-bred with no apparent lineage. Figures estimate that this accounts for ninety five percent of cats on an international scale and only five percent that come from established pedigrees. Much of this is thought to be based around the general cost of pet keeping during initial selection. A pedigree breed cat will retail for a significant price when being sold by a breeder on the market. In comparison, many non-pedigree cats will be acquired for a modest price well below that of the pedigree range. In addition to this, the abundance of these animals even present opportunities where they will be on offer for no charge at all.

Many owners often encounter their future household pets by interacting with local rescue organisations that require a new home. In many cases, the non-pedigree cats look just as exotic and beautiful as purebred counterparts.Much of the risk lies within the uncertainty that owners have when first receiving their cat.
