Relaxation in cats is a very useful part of pet keeping. Studies have shown that this therapeutic activity reduces stress levels greatly and hence a knock on effect leads to reduction in blood pressure levels. The act of petting is therefore seen as something that can assist in preventing cardiovascular disease if initiated on a regular basis.
Having regular interaction and petting is something to be encouraged and a cat may eventually approach, expecting for the aforementioned session of massage and petting. Aside from these internal benefits, the intimacy allows close inspection of a cat. Aside from grooming, petting allows close investigation of any signs of infection, wounds or other issues that may worsen if left unchecked.
