The Sorrel Abyssinian
The Sorrel cat is another breed that sits under the moniker of the Abyssinian cat. They are a distinct colour and were eventually recognised much later in the breeding period. In some parts of the world the cat is named as the Red due to its appearance. The fur coat of this cat is typically bright in colour and can be perceived as a fiery ginger or rusty orange. There are a number of brown markings on this type of cat and it may sometimes be hard to identify if one has not been able to get a little closer to it.
The Sorrel carries itself with much pride as a muscular specimen. It has a robust physique that boasts great strength. Owners will be able to see Sorrel kittens develop great strength and activity levels when fed an adequate diet. If observing the opposite, there may be an underlying problem that needs to be addressed immediately as these cats tend to possess intelligent and curious personalities. They will require certain levels of engagement and will soon be known by all in the household as playful and free spirits. For this reason, Sorrel cats are not suited to be limited indoors. They enjoy hunting and exploring and it would be advisable to allow an extended area of exploration outside of the house.
Some of the most prominent features of the Sorrel cat include its pink paws and nose. This feature coupled with its brightly coloured fur coat will be identifying markings of its heritage. Sorrel’s cats form part of a bigger pool of Abyssinian cats. Their cousins include the Ruddy, chocolate, silver and many other types that sit under the same umbrella.
New owners will enjoy the ease of maintenance on this type of cat and will bond with its intelligence and warm personality. Owners will not face any issue with grooming either if a regular and easy regime is followed. This type of cat will also be able to supplement its own grooming process as it enjoys lengthy sessions. Long term livelihood of the cat will need to consider as to whether neutering is required. Greater aggression and territorial behaviour will be observed in males as they grow up.
