Bikerni Road Safety Awareness Campaign 2018

in #cause6 years ago

Well, for those who aren't aware there is a "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims" which takes place in the month of November in India, in memory of the road accident victims..

Similarly we do have a Road Safety Awareness month in India which generally happens in the month of January.. For some reasons this year we Bikers in Mangalore could not do it during January.. And with Mangalore Traffic Police Department banning bike rallies, it's going to take something more out of us to do such events on a larger scale henceforth..

However, last week the Deputy commissioner of Police gave us (United Bikers of Mangalore) a call and asked us if we could join them in conducting a Road Safety Awareness with them on 8th of July.. Now, for all those thinking who is United Bikers of Mangalore, well, we are a group of like minded bikers who bring together all the biking groups of Mangalore under one roof and try to organise various events promoting safety, helping charitable institutions, etc.. If you are following @firepower you will know about the various charity events we conduct for orphanages, HIV institutions, old age homes etc..

Coming to the Road Safety Awareness event we did on Sunday, it was organised by the Mangalore Traffic Police Department alongside the Mangalore Bikerni team, headed by @heelsonwheels.. She has done a detailed post about the event which you can read about here..

Following are few of the pictures I clicked during the campaign where the Bikerni's reached out to Bus Drivers, Auto Rickshaws, Cars, Two wheelers and even pedestrians and informed them about the importance of driving/riding within speed limits, unnecessary utilisation of horns, overloading of passengers/goods, importance of seat belts and helmets, zebra crossing, etc..

We did find few of them arguing back at us saying nothing has happened to them in the past and that we are simply over reacting and that the Government is just trying to make money by imposing fines etc.. Well, i had read somewhere that "Accidents brings tears, Safety brings cheers".. End of the day, the choice is yours..

We, United Bikers of Mangalore are grateful towards the Mangalore Traffic Police Department and also the Deputy Commissioner of Police who conducted this awareness campaign and are also thankful towards the Mangalore Bikerni team of @heelsonwheels for assisting the Traffic Police Department in this cause.
