Because Sweeping Generalizations Always Work

This week there has been an overwhelming outcry on social media here in the sometimes beautiful South Africa, about the constant new of women being murdered and raped. I think since Sunday there has been five stories in the news of women who where killed, including a 6 year old girl who was kidnapped on Monday morning. This is not anything new, and this type of story happens on a weekly basis here, and the majority of the time it never has a happy ending, luckily the kidnappers let the little girl go and she was reunited with her family the next day.

Then more stories came to light and people on social media, and everyone started talking about this, which is what we all should be doing to raise awareness of a serious lack of law enforcement in our country. The police in SA are a joke, and if you have ever seen memes online of police sleeping on the job or taking bribes, it's probably the South African police. There is also a very practical explanation as to why that is, and it come down as per usual to government and one with exorbitant corruption at almost every level, which is a series of novel all on it's own. Getting back to social media, where suddenly things took a very Marxist and intersectional hard left towards just outright blaming all men for the rape and murder of women in SA. Looks like some folks found a treasure map and went to dig up an old hashtag that you thought was gone forever, MenAreTrash.

You see, sweeping generalizations are normally disgusting and only sexists, racists and religious bigots do so, but you tend to get a free pass when identify as part of a specific group, usually an oppressed group, in this case women.

"It's fascinating that people, there's so many people now who will make judgments based on what you look like. I'm black. So I'm supposed to think a certain way. I'm supposed to have certain opinions. I don't do that. You don't create a box and put people in and then make a lot of generalizations about them." - Clarence Thomas

There is unfortunately a fundamental problem when laying the blame of rape and murder at the feet of one sex, and shows a blatant inability to properly communicate as to generalize the perpetrator in such a child like way. There is also a huge disparity when facts are added to such an accusation, because men are the biggest victims of murder in South Africa, 81% of those murdered were men, 17% were women. But remember it's about the hashtag ideology here, and the ends justify the means, because any male who takes issue with being lumped into the same category as the worst kinds of people in the world, namely rapists and murders, just need to shut the fuck up. Because women are more at risk than men, and also it just easier for the messaging by incriminating all men, hopefully they will then support the cause, same as the white privilege accusation.

What I find most insane about this entire issue is how the narrative has now shifted from actually dealing with the problem of not having a safe country with decent people who respect each other's civil liberty to blaming all men who need to talk to other men about not raping or murdering, as well as speaking out when a male friends makes an sexist joke or shames a women for being slutty. The absolute hypocritical irony of accusing an entire sex of rape and murder, because you're too lazy to think of a better hashtag, to then equate sexist jokes and criticism of women as some kind of a precursor that leads to rape and murder? That's literally making the argument violent games leads to mass shootings, or that after watching the latest Jimmy Carr or Dave Chappelle stand up comedy, you might just feel the need to go rape or kill someone?

"Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual)." - Ayn Rand
