La Gran Muralla Verde
En esta ocasión los africanos son un ejemplo a seguir al demostrar que con unión y voluntad podemos crear milagros. En el año 2007 la Unión Africana inició un proyecto que llamó “La Gran Muralla Verde”. La intención es reforestar de este a oeste a lo largo de 7.000 kilómetros y con un ancho de 15, principalmente con acacias, el desierto del Sahara con el fin de detener su avance, debido principalmente al cambio climático. Por otro lado con este proyecto lograrían también dar trabajo a las comunidades y evitar incluso que los niños fueran captados por los grupos guerrilleros de la región. Según cifras de las Naciones Unidas en 5 años más de 60 millones de personas de la región pudieran verse obligadas a emigrar. Como era de esperarse los resultados han sido positivos en todos los aspectos, lo que antes solo era arena, hoy es vegetación, agua, animales pastando y las comunidades abocadas al proyecto. Aún queda mucho por hacer pero los 11 países involucrados (Burkina Faso, Yibuti, Eritrea, Etiopía, Malí, Mauritania, Níger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudán y Chad) continúan dándolo todo y ganando la batalla.
