As far as history is concerned, the entire Chittagong region was under the kingdom of Arakan in the 6th and 7th centuries. In the following century, the rule of this region went away (770-810) by Pala emperor Dharmapal. Sultan Fakhruddin Mubarak Shah of Sonargaon (1338-1349) captured this region in 1340 AD. Later, in 1538, when the last sultan of the Sultanate dynasty of Bengal, Sultan Gayasuddin Muhammad Shah was defeated near the saint dynasty of Sher Shah Suri, this region went to the kingdom of Arakan and the descendants of Arakan continued to rule this region. Later the Portuguese shared the Arakanese rule and from 1538 to 1666, this region ruled together the Portuguese and Arakanese descendants. At the end of nearly 128 years, in 1966, the Mughal commander Buzrugh Unme Khan took control of the Arakanese and the Portuguese by defeating the Arabs.
