The Truth About American Cheese

Ok, so we all remember that very controversial cheese from our childhood. American cheese; you either loved it or hated it. Yes, this cheese:

I was one of those people that hated this cheese. Why? Because I thought it was fake. But what I found out after some research was that as heavily processed as this cheese is, it is not as fake, seeing that it was made with cheeses such as Cheddar and Colby. But what’s the difference between the orange American Cheese above and the white American Cheese shown below?

The difference is that the white cheese is made with White Cheddar and Jack cheeses. So they’re both made with real cheeses but the main difference is that the orange American Cheese contains annatto, a seasoning used to give Cheddar and Colby cheeses their taste, while the white American Cheese does not contain annatto.
I guess you might now call the American Cheese mystery debunked!
