MICAH: WHO IS LIKE JEHOVAH?

in #christian-trail6 years ago (edited)

My esteemed Steemians, today I want to continue speaking to you about the prophets who gave their oracles so many thousands of years ago but whose prophecy often remains valid for us today.

Today I am about to tell you about the prophet Micah..

He narrates a portion of his writing that the rulers of the time and the people in power were so but so perverse that they did not sleep at night because they were awake planning the evil they wanted to do against the people the next day. I am very struck by all this, because the reality lived by the inhabitants of Judah was very similar to the one lived by the Venezuelans and many countries subjected to the Socialism of the XXI century today.

The meaning of his name:

WHO IS LIKE THE LORD, WHO IS THE LORD?

Your call:

God commands him to prophesy to the city people even though he is a country man, he is sent to preach at the most difficult time of the people of Israel, warning Judah of what might happen to them if they do not turn their hearts to God.
His life and personal characteristics: Micah was a country man of humble origin. His father's name is not mentioned, which suggests that he was born into a humble and unknown family outside the village of Moreset-Gat. Micah saw the cities as the centers of iniquity and corruption.

The time of his ministry:

749 to 634 B.C. for about 40 years

The site of his ministry:

Micah prophesies from Moreset-Gat a village 30 km southwest of Jerusalem, in Judah. He carried out his ministry amidst turmoil, strife, change and growth, Assyria was becoming a dominant military power; he had already imposed his dominion and tribute on Syria and Israel.

Important Kings in Micah's time for Judah:

Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah.

The Palestinian economy and political world:

The kingdom of Israel was already invaded by the Assyrians and the days of Samaria came to an end in 722 B.C.
Relations between Israel/Judah and other countries:
The possibility of making alliances with Egypt against Assyria was being studied, and others believed that they should be subjected to the rule of the Assyrian empire. The political conditions were disastrous.

Historical events of the time:

The destruction of Samaria by the Assyrian kingdom in 722 B.C.

The prophet's message:

Micah is like a collection of sermons that the prophet addressed to the people over many years. The prophet is a spokesman for God. Their main themes speak to us of corruption, punishment, the salvation of a remnant of Israel and a series of precious promises of blessing for Jerusalem. Samaria and Jerusalem are denounced as guilty before the judge of the universe. Captivity and exile are inevitable.

The sins of Judah:

Social injustice, idolatry, corruption, abuse, paganism.

The punishment:

God will deliver Judah into the hands of the Babylonians, they will be deported and Jerusalem will be destroyed. They will be banished and enslaved. It prophesies the destruction of Samaria and the subsequent destruction of Jerusalem.

Promises of hope:

A small remnant will be saved. (2:12,13), speaks that Jehovah will gather his own people from Jacob and Israel and as the Good Shepherd will gather his sheep, there will be joy in the fold. The faithful will be led by their King, Speaks of the Messiah and the glorious promise of redemption.

Personal characteristics of God revealed in the prophet's message:

Justice, Salvation, protection, peace, restorer, fidelity, mercy.

Summary (the central issue of the prophet):

The prophet Micah proves to be an eloquent peasant, a knower of God and his mysteries. It exposes in a very fresh, clear and simple way the truths relevant to big cities. No one is left without his part in the matter, because he speaks to them with solvency from the Kings, rulers, magistrates, priests, prophets, heads of family, to everyone in general. He openly and sharply denounces abuses, injustices, mistreatment of women and children, depravity of Jehovah's cultic service, deliberate corruption. It is incredible to think that the people did not see such an atrocity coming even though they were warned in so many ways. In the end God's righteous judgment came upon the great nations corrupted by the wickedness of their hearts.

The most special thing is that God promises their care, protection and faithfulness to their remnant and although they have also failed in some circumstances, God forgives, restores and throws their sins to the depths of the sea, where they are no longer remembered. This Word is very special because Who like the Lord? no one compares his greatness, majesty and faithfulness to his chosen ones.

Key passage:

You've already been declared what's good!

You've already been told what the LORD expects of you:

To practice justice,

love mercy,

and humble yourself before your God.
