Bringing up our Children

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it

This scripture is one of admonition that admonishes parents and elderly ones to start training and nurturing their kids at a very tender age into the Wonderful men and women they want them to be. The way parents nurture their children will be reflected in the kind of adults they will get in the near future.

It is sad to see that while others are busy raising their children in a good way with some proper up bringing, others are also busy making their children follow in their bad ways. I was at a barbing shop today to get a head cut and I met these two adult men discussing about their lives. They talked about so much including their beer lives. They even bragged about the number of bottles they could consume and the pride I saw im them as they said all these things really saddened me.

As if that was enough, one of these guys went ahead to narrate how his 4yrs old son does not drink juice or any soft drink. He said, his Son at that age refuses such drinks and only drinks beer. He said his Son drinks only beer and thatbis the only thing he accepts. This was the part that made me look at the man right in front of me and I could hardly believe the words he uttered. Here is a man already teaching a 4yrs old kid to consume beer. In fact, he is not only teaching him but has taught him so well already.

He said, he prefers they drink the beer with his knowledge of it than to have his children drink it behind his back. This is the kind of things some parents are teaching their children and what these children will turn out to be is what baffles me most. When we some adults become drunks and a negative influence to society is as a result of such upbringing. The World is such a terrible place right now and it seems to lose the very little sense of morals left. And with such upbringing from parents, I don't see it getting better at all.

Children are the future of tommorow and the way we raise them matters too much. Their future and perception of the World depends on what parents teach them at these early stages. Parents must teach their children good moral values and conduct of behaviour that impacts society positively. The truth is, you will only reap what you sow and what we sow in children today is what we will reap tomorrow. Especially in our Christian family, we must implant in our Children those core biblical principles and values with which they will grow.
