Evangelical don't defend Trump's wrongs, but I think they support him because he does not alienate them unlike previous administrations which is a good thing for Christians.
The last time I checked I do not know of any pastor who was American's president before.

I don’t defend his sinful nature, as I have one myself. There will never be a perfect leader til Jesus comes. God has a long history of using imperfect people to effect His will. This is just another instance.
