Nothing Much Has Changed

the thing they hoped.jpeg
John 8:6-7 (KJV)
This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Wow, how many times has it been that people have asked me a question I tried not to answer? Truly nothing has changed in all these two thousand years.
They asked a question meant to cause trouble
They asked the question despite it being obvious Jesus preferred not to answer
They asked the question and came under conviction by the answer

The thing they hoped to do did not happen. He did not condemn the woman. He did not set Himself up so people turned against Him. This thing only served to heap coals of fire upon their own heads. They left under conviction, ashamed and without a word to answer Christ.

Jesus set us the example in everything. We just have to follow Him!

I agree!

1 John 2:6 "Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did."

This is another example of Jesus upholding God's commandments. According to the Torah, God's instructions, the women caught in adultery is to be stoned (John 8:5), which is true but it is not the whole law. The whole law can be found in Deuteronomy 22:22-24 which says that both the woman AND the man shall die by stoning. The scriptures tell us that they only brought the women. The scribes and Pharisees (John 8:3) were trying to catch him, trying to make him out to be a false prophet and not the Son of God because if they could get Jesus to break God's commandments then of course he had to be a false prophet. Jesus was not one of the judges at the city gate so He, according to God's commandments, could not determine or authorize the punishment of stoning. Yes Jesus showed mercy but he also didn't break God's law, if he would have he could not have been the perfect sacrifice to die for our sins!

Jesus fulfilled the whole law. He also demonstrated he was above the law, for He is what the law was a picture of. We measure the law against Jesus; not the other way around. Thanks so much for commenting.

I used to believe that as well. Most people like to use Matthew 5:17 to show how Jesus has fulfilled the law. The word abolish and fulfill in the Greek are two different words. If those two words meant the same thing then why not use the same word? Verse 17 does not say - Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to abolish them. That does not make any sense. The Greek word for fulfill is defined as to fill up or a better way to put it is to bring it to a greater meaning. And Jesus proves this by saying that if you are even angry with your brother you have murdered them in your heart or if anyone even looks at a women lustfully they have committed adultery in their heart. Now let’s take a look at verses 18-19. “For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” These two verses from Jesus himself tell us the God’s law has not been done away with. We are still on the same earth that He walked and not everything has been accomplished yet. There are many things that have yet happened. Jesus also says here that if anyone sets aside even the lest of these commands they will be least in the kingdom.

In Acts 3 Luke tells us in verse 22 that a Prophet like Moses will be raised up and Him you shall do whatever he says to you. Luke is quoting from Deuteronomy 18:18:19. And here God says that this prophet, which we know to be Jesus, will only speak the words of the Father. Jesus also confirms this: John 7:16-17 “Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. 17 Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.”

I know you still may not believe what I am telling you and that is why I used the scriptures and did not put in my opinion. You must ask yourself what if I am right in what I am saying? As a man of God please pray about this and ask for His truth no matter the cost! The truth is you already follow the majority of God's law already.

I also hope you will be able to carve out a few minutes and watch the below. It might help shed some light on the perspective I am coming from.

There is so much presumption, error, misleading in this post. Galatians, Colossians and Jude were written specifically to counter the heresy you have allowed yourself to embrace.
Thanks for reading my post though. I will pray for you.
