Peace in the Midst of the Storm.

  • Here we have the first Psalm with a title which is the following...
A Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son.
  • Those who troubled David, this is what they did.
LORD, how they have increased who trouble me!
Many are they who rise up against me.
Many are they who say of me,
"There is no help for him in God." Selah
  • How they have increased who trouble me.

David was in a great deal of trouble while writing this Psalm. What seemed to be a successful rebellion against David was led by his own son. Many of his previous associates and friends joined the ranks of those who troubled David, after they forsook him. ( 2 Samuel 15:13 ).

  • There is no help for him in God.

The situation that David was in was so bad that man felt that David was beyond God's help. The people or individuals who said this probably didn't feel that The Lord was unable to help David, they probably felt that The Lord was unwilling to help David. His past sin was looked at by them and they figured, "This is all what David deserves from The Lord God". -There is no help for him in God.

Let's look at the below Scripture shall we ...

Shimei was an example of someone who said that God was against David and he was just getting what he deserved.

This was most painful for David, this thought, that The Lord God might be against him and that there is no help for him in God. How many of us have felt that way? "Yes I know God is able to help me, but is He willing?"

If you take all the temptations which ascend from hell, and you take all the trials which come from heaven, and all the "crosses" which arise from this earth, they would not come close to a trial so terrible which we see in this verse.

To be led to fear that there is no help for us as humans and individuals in God, is the most bitter of all afflictions.
