Topic: Tempted as we are, but without sin

Bible reading: Mathew 4:1-11
1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered.3And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.5Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple,6 and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.7 Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.11 Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Notice that it was the Holly spirit that led Jesus to be tempted and the temptations came after a special time with his Father (vs. 1-2). God does allow our faith to be tested and such testing can come at any moment, especially, when we think we're spiritually strong. Be prepared!
Jesus was tempted in three areas;
To misuse his miraculous power to meet his physical need (vs. 3),
To use his privilege wrongly as the Son of God (vs. 5-6),
To compromise with the devil and avoid God's way of the cross (vs. 8-9).

The devil continues to cause many Christians to fall in one or more of these areas, particularly in the area of sexual immorality (lust of flesh), pursuit of wealth (to acquire all that the eyes see), and desire for power (the pride of life). See 1 John 2:15-17.
Jesus means of overcoming the temptations (vs. 4,7 & 10) is available to us also. We must be diligent to saturate our minds with the word of God by daily meditation upon it, memorizing it and doing what it directs (Cool. 3:16). Then the devil will also fail to mislead us (vs. 6).
So what? Watch your eyes see and read, where your feet go and what your hands touch.
Prayer
Teach me to hide your word in my heart O Lord,that I may not sin against you. IJN, AMEN
