The Man Abraham
The Christian faith is not a bed of roses. It comes with a lot of challenges and troubles which makes a Christian stronger or fall out of faith if not able to cope with the challenges.
Abraham is regarded as the father of faith and most times we claim the blessings of Abraham without bothering to consider his life and the pains he went through.
This article is a brief recap of the life of Abraham, let's study together.
Abraham was the first son of Terah and he had other two brothers; Nahor and Haran
Genesis 11:27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
God called Abraham out of Haran when he was seventy and five years old. At the time God called him, he was barren and had no child.
And God promised him that he was going to be the father of many generations. This promise was what lead to the change of his name from Abram to Abraham and his wife's name from Sarai to Sarah.
Genesis 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
When the promise of having a child delayed, Sarah gave her maid(Hagar) to Abraham who bore him Ismael. It was at this point that God called him to walk in righteousness.
Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Then at age ninety nine, God visited Sarah and she gave birth to Isaac but God still requested that Abraham sacrifice his son to Him.
Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
Hmmmm, thy only son, God was reminding Abraham that Isaac was the only son but yet God was asking that the same only son should be sacrificed. This point is the hardest point but he scaled through that test. But that's a lesson to every Christian that God will always demand our best before He (God) can give us the best.
