The Reason Why Your Prayers Are Not Answered

벼락치기공부를 하여 시험을 치르는 학생이 성적이 좋을 리가 없지요.

Crashing before an exam won’t guarantee you a good grade.

초등학교나 중학교 저학년이라면 통할지 모르지만, 고등학교에 들어가면 시험치를 공부의 양이나 수준이 단지 순발력으로 통하지 않습니다.

It might work in elementary or middle school; but often, high school and above become harder to improvise through crash courses.

그래서 성적이 출중한 우등생들은 평소에 공부를 해 놓은 학생들이겠죠.

Usually, in most cases anyway, students with good grades are the ones that study continuously.

수능시험은 변별력을 요구하는 시험이에요.

College entrance exam requires critical thinking.

즉 아주 성적이 우수한 학생과 적당히 성적이 좋은 학생을 구별해서, 명문대학에 들어갈 수 있는 수준을 증명해야 하죠.

It is an exam to decide which student should go and have higher education in better school environment.

수능시험에는 교과서나 참고서에 등장하지 않는 지문이 나오는 이유이기도 합니다.

That is why it has questions and problems that are not learned in school.

평소에 고액과외를 하거나 학원에 다녀서 시험 치르는 기계가 된 학생들이, 한 번도 만나지 못한 유형의 문제를 내어 진짜 탁월한 성적을 갈라냅니다.

Students who take extra-curricular class or continually prep for test get good results.

그러므로 수능시험에서 넘사벽의 성적을 내려면 평소에 많은 양의 공부와 수준 높은 공부를 병행해야 함은 틀림없죠.

So the exam requires many hours of preparing and studying outside the regular school education.

그래서 이런 학생들이 초등학교에서부터 발군의 실력을 드러내어서 줄곧 우등생의 가도를 달리다가 명문재학에 가뿐히 들어가는 겁니다.

That’s how students get good scores and enter elite universities.

그러나 자신의 번득이는 지혜와 눈치실력을 믿고, 평소에 공부를 등한시 한 학생들은 상급학교로 갈수록 밑천이 드러나기 마련입니다.

But the ones who blindly trust themselves and not study will have low score in the end.

이런 일이 교회에도 있습니다. 기도에 대한 것이죠.

And this also happens in church, when it comes to praying.

우리네 교회에서 교인들이 기도하는 모습을 살펴봅시다. 평소에 기도하지 않다가 기겁할 문제가 발생하면 부랴부랴 새벽기도회에 나와 작정기도를 하거나, 아예 기도원에 보따리를 싸갖고 올라가서 금식을 선포하며 기도에 올인합니다.

Let’s take a look at what Christians do today; they don’t regularly pray until something happens. When they’re in trouble, they diligently attend morning prayers and go fasting.

결론부터 말하자면 이런 식을 기도는 응답을 경험하지 못합니다.

Long story short, this kind of prayer won’t be answered.

그래서 아무리 기도해도 응답이 내려오지 않으니까, 문제가 발생해도 기도할 생각이 없죠.

When the prayer doesn’t get answered, one just gives up praying all together, even when there is a huge problem.

우리네 교회에서 기도하는 사람들이 사그라지고 있는 이유이지요.

That’s why prayers are disappearing from churches today.

아니라고요? 그렇지 않은 기도하는 사람들도 있다고요?

No? There are people who do better?

꾸준하게 새벽기도회에 나와서 기도하는 이들도 적지 않다고요? 오홋, 그런가요?

There are people who go pray in prayer meetings? Really?

그렇다면 이들에게 기도의 능력이 있습니까?

Then, do they have the signs of the Spirit?

목회자나 교회 직분자 혹은, 아침잠이 없는 나이가 많은 교인들이 새벽기도회에 나오고 있습니다.

Many pastors, high ranking members, and elderly attend the early prayer meetings.

그러나 그들이 기도하는 양과 내용을 알아봅시다.

Let’s see what people pray for.

기도하는 시간은 많아야 1,20분에 불과합니다. 또한 기도하는 내용도 자신의 유익을 구하거나 삶의 문제를 해결하는 내용이 대부분이죠.

They (mostly) pray for 10-20 minutes. And their prayers ask for worldly success of their own.

이런 기도의 방식과 태도가 기도의 내공을 쌓은 기도일까요?

Is this the mindset a faithful person should have?

만약 그랬다면 성경에서 약속한대로, 기도하는 것마다 응답이 내려오며, 놀라운 기적과 이적으로 세상 사람들을 놀라게 하고 있을 겁니다.

If so, they would be the light and the salt of the world, with all their prayers answered.

그러나 우리네 목회자들과 교인들이 그런 기도의 능력이 있는가? 목사나 중직자라면 교인들의 눈치가 보여 새벽기도회에 나오는 것일 뿐이죠.

Do pastors today have such power? Many come to morning prayers because people expect them to.

그걸 어떻게 아느냐고요? 진짜로 하나님과 교제하는 것을 즐기는 목회자나 교인들이라면, 평소에 기도하는 습관을 들여서 하나님과 깊고 친밀하게 사귀면서 동행하는 삶을 드러내었을 게 분명하기 때문입니다.

How do I know?If they were truly talking to God, it would show in their lives, even if they try to hide.

그게 아니기 때문에 종교적인 행사로서 기도회에 나와 눈도장을 찍고 있을 뿐이죠.

And they are not. That’s why they just show their attendance and participation.

어디에도 성경에서 말하는 기도의 능력은 눈 씻고 찾아볼 수 없는 이유입니다.

That’s why you can’t find signs of the Spirit in their life anywhere.

그렇다면 어떻게 해야 기도의 능력을 얻어서 기도하는 것마다 응답이 내려오며, 놀라운 성령의 능력으로 하나님의 도구의 삶을 살아갈 수 있는지 여러분도 궁금할 겁니다.

Now, you might be curious about how you can have all those prayers answered and work as His servants.

그러나 여러분이 이를 모르는 게 아니죠. 성경이 수도 없이 밝히고 있으니까요.

But you already know this. The Bible talks about this as well.

그저 여러분이 하나님의 말씀과 예수님의 명령을 무시하고 있을 뿐입니다.

You just are not obeying Jesus’ command.

예수께서 나가사 습관을 따라 감람산에 가시매 제자들도 따라갔더니(눅22:39)

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. (Luke 22: 39)

쉬지 말고 기도하라 ... 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라(살전5:17,18)

17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5: 17-18)

이러므로 너희는 장차 올 이 모든 일을 능히 피하고 인자 앞에 서도록 항상 기도하며 깨어 있으라 하시니라(눅21;36)

Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21: 36)

하나님이신 예수님께서 이 땅에 계실 때에는, 인간의 몸을 입고 계셨기에 육체의 한계를 지니고 있으셨기에 스스로 기도의 훈련을 통해 습관을 들여서 기도하셨습니다.

Even Jesus had to train himself to pray continually because he also had human characteristic when he was on earth.

그래서 항상 한적한 곳에 가셔서 밤낮없이 기도하시기에 힘쓰셨습니다.

So he focused on praying day and night, by himself in a quiet place.

사도바울도 자신이 쉬지 않고 기도하는 습관을 들였기에, 쉬지 말고 기도하는 것이 하나님의 뜻이라고 콕 집어서 밝히고 있죠.

Apostle Paul also continually prayed; he clearly states that praying continually is God’s will for us.

다니엘은 하루 세 번씩, 정적이 보는 데서 창문을 열어놓고 목숨을 걸고 기도할 정도였습니다.

Daniel prayed 3 times a day, with his windows wide open, even when his enemies were watching him.

사무엘도 기도를 쉬는 게 죄라고 콕 집어서 말씀하셨죠. 그러나 우리네 교회에서는 이런 기도를 가르칠 생각도 배울 생각도 없어요.

Samuel also said it’s a sin to pause from praying. However, Christians today don’t teach nor learn this way to pray.

그래서 종교행사로 남에게 보이기 위한 기도행위만을 할 뿐이죠.

They just pray according to what the church has been letting them to; to show their faith to others.

기도란 하나님을 만나서 깊고 친밀하게 교제하는 통로이다. 입만 열면 하나님을 사랑한다고 말하지만, 정작 하나님을 만날 생각이 전혀 없는 교인들이 대부분입니다.

Prayer is the way of communicating with God. Most people don’t take interest in talking to God, although they constantly call him with their mouths.

이렇게 위선을 떨면서 하나님의 명령을 무시하고 멸시하고 있으니, 하나님이 가증스럽게 여기는 게 마땅하죠.

Of course, God despises them.

그러면서 이들은 다급한 문제가 생기면 기도자리에 앉아서, 작정기도를 선언하고 헌금봉투를 갖다 바치고 금식을 선포하는 등 부산을 떨지만 아무런 일도 일어나지 않습니다.

So they pray diligently when something comes up, such as increasing the amount of offering and/or fasting, but nothing happens.

평소에 하나님을 만나지 않는 사람들에게 기도응답이란 그림의 떡에 불과하니까요.

This won’t work if they haven’t kept a good relationship with God.

우리네 교인들은 무능하고 무기력한 믿음으로 고단하고 팍팍하게 살고 있는 이유이기도 합니다.

That’s why people suffer, feeling like they’re living in hell.

너희가 기도할 때에 무엇이든지 믿고 구하는 것은 다 받으리라 하시니라(마21:22)

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21: 22)

너희가 내 안에 거하고 내 말이 너희 안에 거하면 무엇이든지 원하는 대로 구하라 그리하면 이루리라(요15:7)

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (John 15: 7)

위의 두 구절은 똑같이 기도의 응답을 약속하고 있습니다.

There 2 passages both promise the answers to our prayers.

한 구절은 믿고 구하는 것이고, 다른 구절은 우리가 예수 그리스도의 영이자 성령이 안에 거한다는 조건이 걸려있죠.

1 is to believe that we’ll receive; the other is the condition, saying holy Spirit has to be within us.

그래서 우리네 교인들은 자신들이 예수 안에 있다고 믿고 간절히 구하고 있지만 아무런 일도 일어나지 않습니다. 그 이유가 무엇일까요?

So people pray, but nothing happens; why is that?

그들에게 예수 그리스도의 영이자 성령이 안에 계시지 않는다는 것이며, 그들은 믿는 자가 아니라는 반증입니다.

That just proves that Holy Spirit is not within them; they are not true believers.

그러니 여러분의 기도가 응답이 없으며 하나님이 외면하시는 겁니다.

That’s why your prayers don’t get answered. That’s why God doesn’t listen to what you say.

그래도 제 주장이 믿기지 않는다면, 심판대 앞에서 자신이 어떤 취급을 받을지 확인해보시기 바랍니다.

If you still can’t believe me, you can find out when you stand in front of God.

그러나 그곳은 더 이상 기회가 없다는 것도 잊지 마시기 바랍니다.

But don’t forget; once you get there, you have no more chance to turn back.
