Tree Lighting and Human Biology, Learning Log

Today is November 29th, 2021.

Last night we went to the tree lighting festival at the Vancouver art gallery. There was a band playing Christmas music. We also went for dinner at Urban Fare.

In science we started human biology.

The following is taken from the Complete Canadian Curriculum.

Cells

Cells are the building blocks of all living things. Cells can be in different shapes and sizes but almost all of them have the same parts.Animal cells of the same shape and size work together to make up larger body tissue

Musculoskeletal system

Bones hold our body up and protect our organs. Skeletal muscles work with the bones to let us move. This is our musculoskeletal system. Joints are where two bones connect. Different joints allow for different types of movement.

Nervous System

The nervous system is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and many, many nerves placed all over the body.

Respiratory System

All we do is breathe in and out, and the respiratory system does the job of getting oxygen to our blood, cells, and releasing as waste the carbon dioxide we do not need. The respiratory system needs clean air to stay healthy.

Circulatory System

The heart has a left side and a right side that work together to pump and receive blood. The rate at which our heart pumps blood varies according to our activities

Digestive System

Food we eat travels through the body's digestive system, a group of organs that takes the nutrients and expels the waste

Excretory System

The excretory system is a cleaning system. It cleans the blood and produces urine.

Defence System

The body has different ways to defend itself against things that may make us ill. If the body s first defence fails, white blood cells can multiply and attack disease causing microbes.
