Venom

I have a weird feeling about this movie. On the one hand I feel satisfied with everything they did with Venom's character, his relationship with Eddie and basically anything that is related to him. But at the same time I feel that I must be objective and look beyond my fanaticism and say the huge flaws that the film has. The script errors, the special effects, the development of some characters, light touches on the performances; but I feel that the Venom-Brock relationship can hold all those mistakes on its shoulders and still move on.

Instead of saying good and bad things about the film, I prefer to let go of my opinions without much ado. The film, on a cinematographic level, is bad, yes. The bad reviews that it has by the specialized critics are easily excusable, as well as the good reception on the part of the public. Because Venom can be seen from two points, with a very noticeable line of difference, and completely different from each other. If you are a person who is not a fan of superhero movies you are an extremely objective critic who studied cinematography all his life and you are only looking for a good movie, you enter the group that they will not like, or at least not at all. The film has a lot of script errors, and is simplistic.

They take the most typical superhero formula that could be found in 2003-2005 and apply it, and don't believe it, some films of that year were good (Spiderman's Trilogy by Sam Raini, Batman Begins, among others.), but the problem is that they don't take into account the evolution that superhero cinema has had in the last decade, and they only go for what they believe will be safe, and don't take it further, don't experience, don't try, don't risk taking different paths: Fall of the Hero, Obtaining of Powers, Ascent of the Hero and Final Fight Against the Villain, without interesting sub-plots, without a solid script or anything like that. And everything that comes before Eddie gets the symbiote even becomes boring, I personally was even falling asleep watching the movie.

Tom Hardy in Venom (2018)

Now, once Eddie gets the symbiote, Venom begins to interact with him, the action scenes begin as if I had been thrown a bucket of cold water to wake me up. More than Venom's reasoning, their psychology, the great thing about them is that it doesn't make any sense what they do to the critics, it could easily seem like a bad point, but I don't care how well you see massacring the bad guys, it looks great, the design looks awesome, their action scenes and the scenes where only the two protagonists interact are great and entertaining.

Honestly, if they hadn't taken Venom in such a great way, on an objective level the film could have been a piece of garbage, his villain on duty, his secondary characters with no point of interest to us, even Eddie himself without a symbiote is totally removed from the bravery of his comic book counterpart, and becomes a coward. Which gives even greater satisfaction when he finally takes the symbiote and begins to break bones. Now what's missing from this film? It lacks Marvel Studios, honestly, and I'm not saying it because I think that everything they do is a masterpiece, their films I like but I also accept that they have a lot of mistakes. But what I mean is that we have to accept that Marvel does know how to tell a story, which Venom's film lacks, an interest in history. The R rating, yes, I know it's contradictory to the previous point because it's unlikely that a Marvel film has an R rating, but I think it would have given Venom a much bigger point to see as she literally ripped out the heads, or a lot more blood (which, even though Venom beat them up, I never saw a drop of blood on anyone). And, the 40 minutes that the film was cut, the film became super short, without post-credits the film is 1 hour and a half, and if, as Tom Hardy says, those were the best scenes, what is the fear of showing them and trying to improve the story you were telling?

And well, to finish I think I have left few things that I dislike or like the film, because they would be a spoiler, but well, in short I must say that when Venom appeared, the film became interesting, entertaining and even fun, but until then only brought boredom. I don't know what to think of a sequel to this film because in specialized critics, it went badly, but the rest is being a success, but if it appears I only hope that they take better the story they are telling of Venom, because he is already a wonder.
