Pompous Homeland Monument in Merida, Mexico

in #cityscapephotography6 years ago (edited)

Homeland monument is an encapsulation of everything to love about Mexico - the history of the country is represented in more than 200 historic figures carved around the sides of the monument.

The monument is located in the middle of Paseo de Montejo, one of the busiest roundabouts in Merida, Yucatan. The boulevard Paseo de Montejo was inspired by the design of the famous Champs Elysees in Paris.

In the close-up of this huge construction you will find many details of Yucatan. The story of Mexico is displayed all around the sculpture. Near the center of the monument you will find the symbol of Mexico, the eagle devouring a snake.

The iconic masterpiece by Romulo Rozo depicts the rich history of Mexico and it is also a tribute to the patriotism.

NOTE:
Sunday is the best day to visit this monument as that is when the boulevard is closed to traffic and locals ride bikes and stroll along the avenue.

Stay awesome and Steem on!

Lil Tammy

Those pictures are wonderful @liltammy thank you for sharing, so Sunday is a car free day and many visitors will be there... But how can you take such a good pictures and no human around except you🤔

Found your post through @zorank post in the pay it forward contest this week. Are you in Mexico now? How's the Mexicans reaction about their football national team in the world Cup tournament?

Thank you for stopping by, there are no people because we came early in the morning (about 8 am). The Mexican fans are very passionate about football and they were rooting for their national team like crazy;) Have a nice day! T. :)

Those sites/sights are beyond beautiful. Cheers for sharing :)

I came to your post because @zorank featured you in the Pay it forward contest

Thanks for stopping by:)

Wanted to let you know that you were featured in @zorank's entry post for the Pay It Forward Curation Contest. This week we tossed out our normal rules of only featuring level 50 and below steemians. Loving the posts that are being featured already, including yours.

This monument is really cool and it always amazes me seeing things like this in the middle of a modern day city. The craftsmanship that went into this is great! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for featuring me in your selection. I feel very honored. And yes you are right, seeing this ancient monument these days feels very unique.
Have a great weekend:) T.

Ty fotky jsou krásné! ;-)

Ďakujem, milé od teba;)

Užili jste si Prahu? :-)

Jou!

Another interesting point is that Romulo Rozo, the sculptor, was originally from Colombia. I think he fell in love with Mexico. Great pictures.

It looks familiar to you, right? 😀 Thanks for interesting fact. And what are you thinking about the construction from your professional architectural aspect, Kev?

As you noticed, here in Yucatan we have a lot of stone. There is a nice variety to choose from.
As an architect, I feel very happy knowing that we have those natural sources and that we can apply them to our projects. I am really sure that Romulo Rozo saw the potential and the beauty of the region so he incorporate it to his work, naturally, he was a sculptor. Great day!

Love this post @liltammy! I've yet to get to Merida, but we left Canada and currently live in Playa del Carmen, south of Cancun... I have a feeling you probably know of it :)

Love this post @roleerob! I found your post as I'm one of the judges for a weekly Pay it Forward Curation Contest where you were featured by @zorank. Feel free to join us next week :)
