It is often said, "follow the money". In true science, one should "follow the energy". Energy variation produces change.
Early in science education the problems are solved in a closed-system where all the variables are known. However, in the real world, all the variables cannot be known. So to solve a problem you define a closed-system as best you can, taking into account the largest variables that can be measured.
When climate scientist define their closed-system as just the earth, they open the door to error and fallacy.
Open your mind and think of the bigger picture, know your place in the universe. If you are reading this you are likely on one of the continents or oceans on a rotating planet, in a solar system orbiting a star, in a galactic soup orbiting a galactic center, in a universe full of wonder and danger.
Sometimes the factors to be considered when investigating or solving a problem are bigger that what we can see or feel.

I am uncertain if the Michelson-Morley experiment was ever performed beyond the van allen belts.
As someone who worked with a space weather group, I tell you for certain that there is weather within the envelope encompassing our solar system.

what about OUTSIDE the heliosphere?
inside the earth's magnetosphere is one thing. Thing of it as an 'environment'.
the same could be said for outside the earth's magnetosphere but inside the sun's heliosphere.
and outside the heliosphere also.
I don't suppose we'll know for sure until the same experiment(s) are made in each environment?
do they all produce the same results?
I am not sure if the Voyager spacecrafts are outside the heliosphere or not now.

Once those spacecraft break through the heliosphere there will be galactic weather to deal with.

and we don't KNOW what is out there. What's worse they don't have the instrumentation to detect certain things that we didn't even know about when they were launched.
We Assume that natural law is the same everywhere...but we haven't tested that hypothesis yet.
in related news....voyagers I and II 'speeded up' a little bit when they got to a certain point away from the sun, much to the surprise of scientists. Oddly enough Oumuamua did too. (I'm not buying the part about 'outgassing caused by the sun pushing it away faster. My understanding is that takes heat. Not a lot of which is that far out.
but what else could it be?
