We had quite a number of cases of these skimming some years back too and the banks also had to modify the atms. I think it was a problem all along but for cost reason, improvement are not done till bigger problems happened.

I think those modifications only happened after years because the ATMs were so difficult to modify. They can only make permanent modification during replacement cycle.
i guess which is why I saw the Windows 95 logo on one which seems to got hang even a few years ago.
