The names of ethnic minorities in China 中国少数民族名称的由来

China has over fifty ethnics in the country, the origin of the name can be divided into the following situations:
中国有多达五十五个少数民族，名称的由来大致可分为以下几种情况：

1. Name from the historical tradition of the ethnic. Such as the Northwest Kazakhstan, their ethnic name means white swan, legendary white swan is the beginning of the ethnic group.
   1）族名源于本民族的历史传统。如西北地区的哈萨克族，他们族名的意思是白天鹅，传说白天鹅是该民族的始组。

2. Ethnic name reflects their work, such as the northeast of the Oroqen, the ethnic means the people use of reindeer; and another ethnic Daur, the meaning of their ethnic name is a farmer, reflecting the ethnic mainly engaged in agricultural production.
   2）族名反映他们从事的工作，如东北的鄂伦春族，该族名的意思是使用驯鹿的人；而另一民族达斡尔族，族名的意思是耕耘者，反映该族主要从事农业生产。

3. The ethnic name reflects the customary tradition of the nation, for example, the Bai is a white man. And the sound of the word "The Xibe" likes to use a beast-like hook.
   3）族名本身反映该民族的习俗传统，例如白族以白为喜，自称白尼，即白人；又如北方的锡伯族，锡伯古鲜卑族一词的音转，意思是带钩，和以前锡伯人喜欢使用一种兽形钩有关。

4. Ethnic name is due to residual area. Such as Ewenki means people living in the mountains and jungle. Dong is because of their residual area has many holes. Tibet Menba ethnic is derived from the Tibetan people called them people near the door.
   4）族名因居住地而定。如鄂温克族的意思是生活在高山密林中的人；侗族是因他们的居住地多洞有关；西藏门巴族即源于藏族称他们为居于门隅的人。

Other than above ethnic name, there are some ethnic name is very chic, such as the Northwest Uygur, meaning unity, joint. southwest of the Dai, meaning freedom. Interesting!
除了这些族名外，还有些族名很别致，如西北的维吾尔族，意思是团结，联合；西南的傣族，意思是自由；有意思吧！
