However, the mother of Mulian became a vicious dog, who was most afraid of gongs and drums and setting off firecrackers, so scared that the evil dog had to spit out the sun and moon she had swallowed. After the sun and moon were rescued, the sun and moon shone again. The evil dog was unwilling to catch up again, and again it formed eclipses of the sun and the moon in the sky. The folk name is "the sky dog eats the sun" and "the sky dog eats the moon". Until now, every solar and lunar eclipses, many urban and rural people still spread the custom of beating gongs and drums, setting off firecrackers to drive away the sky dog.
