Miserable Mother's Day Coastal Flooding High Tide Raw Rainy Conditions

Weather wise you could not have asked for a worse day for a Sunday and for Mother's Day. Cloudy raw rainy conditions will be the story for today with only the occasional break in the rain. Temperatures won't get out of the 40s in most places. The wind will be a raw northeast that chills to the bone. Finally we have coastal flooding issues and Coastal Flood Advisories are up for parts of the South & North Shore for high tide tonight. Minor coastal flooding is expected at the time of high tide.

EASTERN SATELLITE

The satellite is loaded with clouds this morning from west to east and from north to south. The first round of rain has moved through. Round 2 is coming in from the west and that carries us until around midnight. The first wave moves out. Then we wait for the second wave on Monday.

The rain does pull out Monday morning only to come back later Monday afternoon into Monday night as a second wave of low pressure moves to our south. That low pulls slowly away Monday night. Monday will be another day of raw conditions and a northeast wind with temperatures in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Tuesday brings a break to the continuous rain but there still could be a few more showers scattered around and the same holds for Wednesday. At least we should see a bit of a recovery in the temperatures come Tuesday and Wednesday and there is the chance we could see some breaks of sun appear from time to time. But as far as general improvement and a couple of days of wall to wall sunshine that doesn't appear to be in the cards for this week at all. Rainfall amounts for Long Island will be in the inch to an inch and a half range spread out over the next 48 hours which should be manageable other than puddles.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
