The Araguaney, patriotic symbol of Venezuela
Majestic golden flower tree, it is inevitable to smile when we see one on it way. The Araguaney, without a doubt, has become a symbol for all Venezuelans.
On May 29, 1948, the Araguaney National Tree of Venezuela was declared, following a decree of the then president Rómulo Gallegos.
This tree belongs to the species chrisantha, a word composed of two Greek words that mean "flower of gold", its scientific name Tabebuia is of indigenous origin. The term "araguaney" has its origins in the Caribbean word "aravenei" with which this indigenous people gave its name to this tree.
