Red Boathouses.
In Norway a traditional boathouse is most often painted red, and are a scattered around in every fjord. Here are a couple located out in the Ofotfjord with the mountains of Lofoten in the background.

Red is the traditional color of barns here, too. I think it's a pretty universal traditional color in our climate. I don't know but I suspect that paint used to be made of some natural ingredient that contained a lot iron oxide.
And maybe cheap and easy to produce?

Barns in the USA, especially the older ones, are almost always red. My son has one.

Same in Norway, barns and boathouse must be red. The colour suits them well I think.
