Color Challenge - Wednesday Yellow

Golden Eye

No this is not a crazy James Bond villain. This is a flat fish, with a lot of rock and roll with a little bit of sole. Sorry for the puns but it’s Wednesday so why not!

Rock Sole-1.jpg

This wonderfully coloured fish is a Rock Sole, Lepidopsetta bilineata. These flat bodied fish inhabit most divable depths to be photographed but can live as deep as 500 plus meters.

Typically living on sand and rocky sea floors, these fish live in the temperate waters from Alaska to Northern California. Colouration Rock soles is highly varied. Its upper surface is grey to olive to dark brown or black, lighter or darker mottling, and is sometimes marked with yellow or red spots; the underside is light. Its dorsal and anal fins have dark blotches or bars, and near the tail fins may be yellowish.

These fish can be a fantastic subject in your image if you find them. They can be quite skittish so approach slowly and pick your best angle.

Happy hunting and thanks for reading.

This creature looks very interesting and the characteristics you mentioned above is really amazing to read.

"with a lot of rock and roll" good joke haha, it was very difficult to find the shape, it looks a bit strange, however many details make it a nice photo, greetings
