Bogotá Street Art
I really enjoyed the short time I spent in Bogotá, capital of Colombia, and have posted a few times about the fascinating street Art in Bogotá already. In this collage, I tried to capture the essence of Bogotás street art scene, but still, there is much more to it than what can fit in one image.
In January, I wrote down the story of Bogotá's street art, but since most of you were probably not following me back then, I will include it in this post as well:
After graffiti had been illegal for years and one sprayer had even been shot by the police, of all people Justin Bieber was the one who sparked the "graffiti revolution" in Colombia's capital: Escorted by a police patrol, he had sprayed a marihuana leaf on a wall in Bogotá in 2013. Just hours later, hundreds of local sprayers and artists who had been spraying at night always on the lookout for police patrols for years gathered at the spot where Justin Bieber had put his marihuana leaf and started spraying at broad daylight, arguing that they had the same rights as the Canadian celebrity. The authorities could hardly argue against that...
Now, instead of hunting down sprayers, the local government has started commissioning works by local as well as international artists and many parts of the city have turned into a giant open-air museum. Also, on many publicly owned buildings, spraying is legal now and many private homeowners followed the example of the government. But still, many street artists only want to put their work on buildings that are still illegal for graffiti, so there still is a conflict between the artistic rebels and the local authorities.

The camera I used to capture this photo is a Sony A37 (APS-C) with a Sony DT 18-135mm F3,5–5,6 SAM lens.

If you can visit other colombian city with a fascinating street art, I recommend you go to Medellin. Is a place with muchos colors and figures in their streets 😄
I would love to go, especially since I have watched Narcos it would be so cool to see this city myself! I will definitely make it there on my next trip to South America :)
You should visit Venezuela too, my country more that colors and figures in their street, have it in their nature. You will love this amazing place. I live here if you need help 😊
Cool, thanks for the offer :) It will probably be a little over two years until I get back to Latin America, but then I will definitely consider visiting Venezuela :)

The sky is is limit
Not sure I'd want to live in a city that was covered by grafitti @jppphotography but I like it in certain areas, especially when it's done well like in your photograph.
The street art makes the charm of the city and it feels like a huge outdoor museum :)
