The birth of a Town // Comedy openmic week #37

in #comedyopenmic5 years ago (edited)

Once upon a time there were a group of people that were very dissapointed with what was happening in their town. They grunted and cried and wrote many pamphlets about how the town was going down the toilet. They slept for days in front of the mayors office and begged him to listen to them.

Please sir! The things! Dont you see the things and the stuff!? Look at those things and the stuff and the happenings and the everythings.

The mayor was a great and very patient man. Tall, handsome and with a head of hair greek gods would envy. But he could not take it no more. His patience was coming to an end and it was time to put his foot down. So the mayor did an unspeakable thing.

He told off the leader of that group. (we will call him "Bob")

He told him off so hard that Bob got offended!

Bob vowed to enact revenge, but he could not do so with haste.
So Bob worked hard and patiently, day and night (and sometimes even during Judge Judy re-runs) to expand the group of people devoted to his ideas...... And every day his goals came closer and closer to fruition.

Days, weeks and months have passed and regardless of his following growing, Bob decided one day to slip into the shadows and leave the command to his most devoted.

And devoted.... they were.

Like a chipmunk gathering nuts for the winter they gathered as many nuts as they could.
All of those that were once dissapointed in the mayor not listening to them; all those that could not find a place of their own in the town; all those that were seeing others prospering in their town instead of them..... Seeing them buying beautiful houses and building up floor after floor. Buying fast cars and velvet scarfs; pet pigs and goats for leisure.

All of this looked perverse in the eyes of the Bobians ..... and indeed some of it was. So they decided they had to act..

One day a Bobian leader spoke up.....

....and said:

It is time my fellow citizens, to go. It is time for us to pack our bags and leave. If we cannot make this town as it should be, then we shall make a town of our own! A town just like this one. But better!

And so they did.

They gathered all their nuts and all their nuts packed their bags and they left on the road to destiny.

They traveled along the road until they found a plot of land that was exactly the same as the plot of land their old town was built on. Where the flowers smelled the same; where the birds sung the same songs; where the trees danced in the wind just the same ....... and they started working.

They were about to fix all the flaws of their old town and "stick it" to the mayor.
So they worked and they worked and finally their job was done.
But since the group lived so long in that one town all they knew how to do is remake what they have already seen.
But as we all know:

Remakes can rarely compete with the original.

The Bobians were so happy with their creation that they wanted the whole world to know.. They were sure that this town would be a better town for everyone to live in. That all the mistakes would be fixed and all the wrongs made right.

But something happened after the town was complete. A shocking revelation struck the Bobians.
They were in control now.

They suddenly realized the opportunities this new power opened for them.

They were in a conflict with their inner selves.

Should we live by the promise we made and make the town a utopia for everyone, or do we use the opportunity that presented itself and get our own big houses and flashy cars, pet pigs and goats?

The appeal of that realization was just too great and they succumbed to the same greed they spoke up against in their old town.
But their appetite was even greater. The hunger that was wearing them down for all those years was finally going to get satisfied.
It was their time and they could not stop.

They could not stop.... not only because they were so hungry, but because the head Bobians knew one thing that their followers did not know.

The pretty town with the pretty houses and the pretty gardens and pretty lawns that looked just as pretty as their old town, had a big flaw.

While the houses in their old town were built with a solid foundation out of brick and mortar, concrete and stone, the houses in this town were built out of only cardboard. They were a pretty picture of the town they have left but nothing more.

These houses as they were now, were almost worthless, and the Bobians in charge, led by their greed, were selling these houses, under the table, for the same price as the sturdy houses of brick and stone in their old town...

.
.
.
.

And that is where we are now. Will the poor Bobian followers realize what is going on, or not?.... i can only guess.

And that, boys and girls is the story of how a town was born...

Moral of the story:

Dont let others take advantage of you. If you want to buy a cardboard box wait until its priced as a cardboard box. Cardboard has value, but you probably shouldnt pay "stone money" for it.

I always wanted to use this gif. haha

Not financial advice.

I nominate @everyone and @LoWC

I can't help but think this is also a tale involving two platforms we know. Regardless though. It is very good and I love the style very playful and also very true. Dropping some wisdom
