A weapons heist.

The cops can’t figure it out.

A sick Batman learns of an explosion at Arkham Asylum. The cops are helpless as they find themselves bombarded with military grade weapons. They don’t stand a chance.

The Joker is free among countless inmates, but that’s the least of their worries. Who set off the explosion?

When Batman arrives The Joker has Jeremiah Arkham held hostage by shotgun and terrorizes him into insanity.

The night is still young. How much can one man take?

Batman's will and strength are tested in the following storyline, Knightfall, starting in Batman 491 and 492. Battered and bruised, can he find the drive to come back?

Maybe even if it's just for the ice cream?

$6 for ice cream!? You'd have to be Bruce Wayne to afford that.

Batman 491 quickly becomes a nightmare all across Gotham. Too bad it wasn't an actual dream.

It's not long until there's a robbery at a haberdashery in Batman 492. While Batman and Robin beat the cops to find an invitation to Jervis Tetch's tea party, Montoya considers the possibility that the breakout might be masking something to come.

As Batman and Robin arrive, Robin is ordered to only be backup even though it's clear Batman is going to need help.

Guests appear to the tea party and ordered to put on the Mad Hatter's (Jervis) mind control hats. One villain duped by the hatter is Film Freak who is ordered to kill whoever was following The Mad Hatter earlier.

Film Freak finds where the homing device went, but Bane found it too and crushed it. Mad Hatter orders his cronies to kill Batman. With the press of a button, Bane beefs himself up a few shirt sizes. Batman kicks and punches the tea party guests while Hatter reaches for a machine gun, but Robin comes out swinging stopping him. Bane, done playing games, makes himself known by twisting Film Freaks neck and tossing him in the garbage.

With The Mad Hatter and Film Freak down, Batman worries about what comes next and who exactly is Bane...

JQ Review
The premise where Arkham Asylum inmates terrorize Gotham is great. Right off the bat, it's clear Bane has a long-term plan and the patience to see it through. Still earlier in the story but can't wait.
