Free Comic Book Day 2019 ~ Saturday May 4th 2019

There aren’t many bigger days in the comic book world than Free Comic Book Day. It’s a day with several purposes but the main one is to bring bodies into the local shop and see what some of these titles are all about. It can introduce new readers into the hobby or showcase a new title to an existing collector. But mainly it’s jnown by many as the day to go to their Local Comic Shop to snag some free goodies!!!

This year there are over 50 different titles to choose from. How each shop handles distribution is entirely different and you should check with your local shop on how they are handling it. We at Conquest Comics pretty much let our regulars take whatever they want. As for random walk in traffic of which there is a bunch, we usually place a loose limit of around 5 books per person. Reason being is you get a ton of free book hungry folks that will cone in with the entire extended family. They will drag out infants, grandma, their neighbor, the dog, the fuckin mailman...all to snag free comics. If it wasn’t so frustrating at times, it would be purely comical watching folks loose their minds over free shit.

I have some nutty stories to tell but I’ll save that for a different write up. For now, this is a post to let you all know about the day. All stores around the world should participate. I don’t know if a shop that doesn’t. Most shops run a big sale while some have cosplayers to gawk at and artists doodling up sketches. We are still hammering out details on our day and I hope to have plans set after the weekend.

I’d highly recommend that you pop in and support your local business. Most of these shops such as my own are just small mom & pop type businesses. They often do tons for the community and popping in on this day and making a purchase is a fantastic way to reward the shop owners on a job well done for being a part of this special day. Remember, just because the books are free for patrons...doesn’t mean they are free for the shop owners. Most shops spend hundreds to thousands of dollars annually purchasing the comics to pass out so please go and buy a few comics, sone Funko Pops, or a graphic novel. Show your support and keep this day moving forward.

Oh, there’s also going to be a free Iron Man Heroclix piece and some Dicemasters gaming stuff. I don’t have a pic of that yet but will post it as soon as I do.
