comment SPAMMING PAYS OFF!

in #commentspamming6 years ago (edited)

Since more than 8 months, we've been searching (almost) daily the Steem blockchain for great music related posts to give them a high value vote. Supported by @curie and their vote train, we are able to hand out pretty nice post rewards, more than 20$ for a 100% vote.

Since February we moved our activities over to a dedicated Steemit account @illuminati-inc (in short IINC).

For long, we kept our curation efforts low profile, meaning, we've only voted, we've done no advertisement, and we didn't leave standard comments - unlike most curator teams - to the voted posts.

The main reason we didn't want to leave standard comments to our selected posts, is the spammy nature of such comments. Sure, when we felt like, and had something to say about the post itself, we left a 'normal' engaging comment using our personal accounts.

After long debates, early April we've decided to start commenting to the selected and voted posts, with a standard comment. We've started this for two reasons:

  1. To support Curie to get more witness votes
  2. To test what happens to the @illuminati-inc account

The Comments

We used two different comments, depending on the post we vote for. The most used comment is this one:

Your post received an upvote by the @illuminati-Inc music curation team and its partner @curie.

You may consider voting for the Curie witness; all witness payouts are used to fund Curie operations including but not limited to more than 10 curation teams (vote here).

For music project posts we've supported, we used a different comment, this one:

Your post received an upvote by the @illuminati-Inc music curation team and its partner @curie to support spreading the rewards to great content.

The Results

With regards to the Curie witness votes, it is difficult for me to analyse what really happened. I've seen quite a number of comments from post authors we've voted for with our IINC account, stating they voted for Curie witness, or will vote for the Curie witness. However, I don't have numbers.

With regards to the number of followers the IINC account gained, I have more solid information. Using SteemFollowers (a tool created by @shaunmza), we could clearly see a solid uptake of number of followers.

To be exact, we started commenting with our standard comments on April 8th. From that day onwards, the number of new followers per day jumped from an average of 1 to an average of 5 per day, with spikes up to more than 10 new followers in a single day.

Further Analyses

Further analysing the followers chart, we could devise:

  • IINC paused voting for a week at the end of April, in this timeframe the number of new followers clearly reflects this
  • The reduction in new followers from early April to end of April is likely due to the reduction in number of votes we've casted, and the number of unique authors we've voted for - However, this is just a gut feeling, we have no concrete figures to proof this
  • The spikes in February and March are caused by the "Curator's Choice" series posted in IINC blog; The spikes happened just after we've published a new post.

And some more numbers:

  • First week of commenting resulted in more than 45 new followers
  • Since we started commenting we've gained more than 140 new followers, increasing the number of followers from just under 90 to around 240
  • We've seen an increase of more than 3 times of new followers due to our comments:
    • 90 followers we gained in about 2 months (February & March & early April)
    • 150 followers we've gained since we started commenting is just in 1 month timeframe

Conclusion

Commenting with a standard comment works!

IT INCREASES AWARENESS

IT INCREASES NUMBER OF FOLLOWERS DRAMATICALLY

Here's my spammy comment 😋

Just kidding. I think minnows could use this as a strategy to gain new followers. And it probably works best if you have some amount of SP. Could of course also be leased.

I don't think I saw anyone doing this. But on first sight it looks like a very appropriate way to build a following.

Yeh, I think the vote train of IINC helped to trigger the actual follows.

Shall we cry now or be happy for you :-)?

Whatever you feel like :)

:-) - better tell him how i can create that for my own posts lol

yeah i totally agree with you, commenting helps alot on steemit. But why are you guys supporting only music related steemit accounts?

Since we focus on Music only! Too many articles when we have to look at other topics as well.

I saw bro you always voting on comments....thats a great thing...I am with you.....Hope you will support me as well....

Comments showing the comment author to have read the post and adds value in one or the other way, I vote for indeed.
