This tree is found throughout the North East except the most northern areas. It is usually found in swamps, bogs and moist areas at lower elevations. Its bark is often described as resembling an alligator's back. Sometimes one side of the trunk stays relatively smooth while the other becomes much more fissured. The branches and trunk can be very misshapen and crooked. This tree tends to rot from the top of the trunk, unlike most deciduous trees.Rules of the contest:
