This is fine looking and very valuable tree. Mature specimens that have grown slowly and have at least eight feet of clear trunk (i.e no blemishes or branches) are worth tens of thousands of dollars as veneer trees. Its nuts are loved by squirrels. In one experiment 420 nuts were buried, yet squirrels found and dug up 419 of them! The bark of this tree shows a diamond pattern.
