Fox Tales WK#30 : Announcing contest winners and a new story image!

in #contest5 years ago (edited)

If you love writing stories then this contest is for you! Write a one paragraph story about the image pictured above. Be creative, think outside of the box and follow the listed rules!

I realized a little late in the game that maybe I should have taken a break from the contest because of the holidays. Most are busy entertaining and spending quality time with their families so not many are able to join in on the contest. That being said, I’d like to say my thanks to @theiornfelix, @seesladen and @oscarina for their participation last week! I needed three entries for week#29 and three I got!

The progress...

All my drawings are original sketches drawn digitally by me on the Procreate App using the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.

I was very light handed when I began sketching for this drawing. Only making a slight adjustment to the angle of her arms being raised.

I multiplied the pencil layer to give the lines a stronger look.

Next I lined areas of shadow with a grey-blue pencil.

Then I began shading with that same color. Gentle strokes in the skin and fabric but more layers to shape the hair.

Darker pencils for a more defined look.

Background color for contrast.

And a frame and highlights around the form for interest! I excited to read your stories for this week’s image! :)

WEEK #29 WINNERS & STORIES!

1st place // @seesladen “Kutulo...The Goddess of Nightmares”
I'd heard stories about her since when I was little. Terrifying stories. She was the shiver that ran through our spines back when our moon lit nights were filled with her stories. Kutulo, she was called. And we'd never thought to ask what her name meant. We only knew that her name made the shadows darker, and the streams and rivers more mysterious. I feared Kutulo, but unlike others I never really thought she was real. "Fear could come from anything" I told myself, "it's only just a feeling..." But Kutulo wasn't real to me. And this conviction only grew as I grew older. Until that night... I didn't know how I found myself at the river bank, but I did. And I was naked, completely naked. Everywhere was quiet, only the waves of the water sang. And it was no ordinary song. I tried to call out, but I had no voice. I told myself to be conscious, to not succumb to the panic slowly rising inside of me. But it was all for naught when she finally arose, her body a full river of water, and her hair floating in a spiral on it's surface. Her eyes bore into mine, and she seemed to stare into my very soul. I tried to close my eyes, to move my hands or feet. But I couldn't. I was physically dead. Then she parted her lips, just a little, and she spoke no words. But I felt it. I felt my life source sucked away deep into her moist limbo. I woke up. I was drenched... And I've worshipped her ever since...
2nd place // @theironfelix “A Summoning”
"Eye of Newt, I cast a hex on thee! Blasphemous tongue severed from a heathen, I adorn thee so I can call out tonight to the great Medusa. Python skin, shield me from the gaze of the great Medusa so that I can view her without forsaking her. Latin blood, drip and bury thyself deep into the Eye of Newt so a portal can open that I can view the great Medusa in all her glory... LAPIS VISUM!Ahem.... Hither! hither! to me, oh great Medusa! Hearken! hearken! for I invoke thee, oh great Medusa! Smell! smell! all these votive that I lay here for thou, oh great Medusa! Look! look! at my plight and bless me with thy presence, oh great Medusa! Speak! speak! so that I can be blessed with a power to turns stone those that dare glance at me as I, unto them, gaze deeply, oh great Medusa! Touch! touch! this unworthy body and make a better servant as I surrender my autonomy to thou, oh great Medusa! Dance! dance! and make the World shutter in fear with me as thy host for thy new reign of terror, oh great Medusa! Live! live! in this age that is so foolish to believe that the mortals reigns without any an obstacle what so ever, oh great Medusa! Strike! strike! in this great millennia of mortal buffoonery before any other immortal so that thy reign will go unhindered, oh great Medusa! Great Medusa, now or never, let thy final judgement be exacted upon me!... Hmm, uee hee hee. I live again, thanks no less to a devout acolyte. I have long remained a spectral head; humiliated, vulgarized, ineffective and forgotten. Now with the common plague of doubt that strikes against us immortal beings, my unquenched thirst shall be ecstatic."
3rd place // @oscarina “La Gorgona (Relato)”
