Haha. Missed this comment. Yep, ivory and all other sorts of things can be found in bangkok. Incluiding endangered species out of the jungle. Welcome the real world of horrors. Im sure you can even buy people if you look hard enough. Sad state of affairs.

Although they are no longer publicly displayed, (for obvious reasons), and nobody really knows what became of them, the Sultanate of Oman once displayed in its throne room a pair of elephant tusks set up to form an arch through which a tall man could walk without bending. These tusks were estimated at over seven feet long, from base to tip.

They were, supposedly, several hundred years old, relics of a time when truly huge bull elephants still existed in the uncharted wilds of Africa.

Yes, of course I realise that Oman is not in Africa; it's on the south side of the Persian Gulf. I just thought I'd mention this before...well, you know.
