The number you're referring to is the total value of the post in terms of Steem Token Units. It is a figure calculated by a front end (like SteemPeak) based on the value of the liquid SBD (Steem Backed Dollar) (or STEEM) and Vests (=Steem Power) that the total rewards are worth in USD. Note that the calculation always assumes that one SBD is worth exactly one USD despite that not usually being the case. Also, the rewards are split 50/50 between the author and the curators (voters) of a post.
