The Spanish government is working to roll out a universal basic income as soon as possible, as part of a battery of actions aimed at countering the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Economy Minister Nadia Calvino.
…the government’s broader ambition is that basic income becomes an instrument “that stays forever, that becomes a structural instrument, a permanent instrument,” she said.

Might this response become more widespread? If one Eurozone economy is introducing it, others will be tempted to follow suit. Particularly ones who had economies that were already shaky before the pandemic, like Italy, Portugal, and Greece.

But since the entire planet is entering at minimum, a deep recession, might not other governments turn to UBI?

If this recession morphs into a Second Great Depression, might even countries nominally as strong as the United States of America be strongly tempted by UBI? After all, Congress has already authorized $1,200 helicopter money checks. So there’s already precedent.
