COVID-19, aka Coronavirus, took the world by storm in the last couple of months. In some countries, Coronavirus's effects are not as predominant as others, but today's reality is that many people are self-quarantining in order to contain or prevent the virus from spreading.

Although these are times of uncertainty, one thing is certain: this is a great opportunity to be productive and creative as time is on your side!

Do you remember when you didn't have any time to learn and grow? Do you remember all those things you wished to do if you had more time? Well, now you have it, but the catch is that you need to stay at home.

So, if you are in quarantine, here are some tips for you to leverage to make your time more productive.

1- Learn new skills

Besides having time on your side, this virus brought a great opportunity for those who wish to learn. There are tons of Webinars and Courses out there that would not be free if not due to the Coronavirus.

One prime example for me was Impact Theory's Mindset 101 Course. This is an absolute beast of a course for those who wish to improve their mindset. And it's absolutely free.

Here is a list of some websites you can use to get your learning going. Note that some of them do not leverage from

  • Skillshare - An online learning platform based on a subscription model. Though, you'll be able to get 2 months for free with the following link.
  • Udemy - An online learning platform with Free Courses, as well as highly-discounted ones;
  • Codeacademy - For coding-focused learning;
  • Youtube - Always free and you might find Live Streams of what you are looking for;
  • Video Copilot - If you'd like to learn more about video production, this is your pick. There are tons of free tutorials available.
  • Ivan on Tech - Interested in Blockchain Technology? Then Ivan on Tech's Academy is definitly worth considering. These are World Class certified Blockchain courses with immense value on a small relatively small subscription. You can get a 7-Days Free Trial if you are interested.
  • Coursera - A massive online learning platform that stands out for their partnerships with big institutions such as Yale, Caltech and Google. Some of these courses are free but they are scheduled. Meaning that you will need to wait for the class to start.
  • Google Digital Garage - If you are looking to start your own business, get into digital marketing, coding and so on, Google has some interesting free courses for you. Also, some of these courses come with a certification of completeness.

2- Connect with other people

In these times of isolation, it's important to stay connected with other people. After all, we are social beings and we are stronger when we feel connected with each other.

Simon Sinek agrees.

So, go ahead and organize video calls via Whatsapp, Skype... hell, even Houseparty is a great option for you to play games together with friends and catch up with them.

If you are together with your family, take this time to do something together to strengthen your bonds, such as board games or building a family project.

Finally, if none of the above applies to you, you can go ahead and engage with online communities.

Remember that isolation can give you a significant hit on your mental health. So, connecting with others is key in these dark times.

3- Work in your cool projects

Remember when you wished you had more time to work in your projects and personal businesses? As John Cena said:

Your time is now!

Even if you don't have a project right now, you can start one. Hell, you can start a project while learning a new skill.

Here is what I mean.

Recently I decided to work on my Angular.js, Node.js and MongoDb skills. So I started a new project, related to Quest It Up that uses those technologies.

And let me tell you, for me this is the best way to learn.

If you still have any doubts, I encourage you to read my first article on this blog.

4- Eat healthy and workout at home

Your health is the absolute priority when we are being threatened by this invisible enemy. So, the best thing we can do during quarantine is to eat healthy foods and to workout at home.

If you don't know what exercises to do exactly, don't worry. There are many experts live streaming workout sessions on Youtube, Instagram and other social media platforms. So, it should be easy to find a stream that works for you.

Also, don't forget to expose yourself to the sun to produce vitamin D.

5- Contribute to ease the Coronavirus's problem

We are quite lucky to live in a world where technology is advanced enough for us to be able to help in these situations. Yes, you can give your contribute to the cause wherever you are!

This is how.

Create Content

One of the best ways to help the cause is to create content for people who are at home to help them pass the time productively while in quarantine.

The previously mentioned live streams about fitness, webinars and online courses are some forms of content that you can provide to people. Well, in hindsight that's what I'm doing right now through this blog post.

So if you are an expert in a certain skill, this is the time to share your knowledge and opinions.

The next video is an excellent example of what can be done for others. The channel Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell made this awesome animated video that explains Coronavirus in detail and in a compreensive way.

This is the best Coronavirus video I watched so far, so be sure to check it out.

Even if you don't feel like producing video content or live streams, you can always share pictures on instagram and share your opinions on twitter.

All of this helps people to feel connected by knowing that there are others in the same situation as them and that's what matters the most.

Use Folding @ Home

If you have a performance PC (i.e. Gaming PC), you can run Folding @ Home in the background in order to help scientists find a cure for Coronavirus.

In a nutshell, Folding @ Home is a distributed computing project that takes your idle GPU or CPU processing power to crunch numbers in order to get a better understanding of biology and to even find cures such as Alzheimer's and Coronavirus.

If you would like to help in this way, you can go ahead and download Folding @ Home.

To better understand all of this, I encourage you to watch the following video. It explains quite well what the Folding @ Home project is, and also includes a tutorial for you to follow at the 5:46 timestamp.

Conclusion

These are times of fear and uncertainty, and yet these can also be times of opportunity and growth.

You decide how you see them.

But above all else, stay safe and be responsible. Your quarantine is much needed as it helps preventing Coronavirus from spreading and to give more time for scientists to find a cure.

I hope you enjoyed this article and that you find it useful to you, as that's why this blog exists in the first place!

If you have any questions or feedback, you know what to do!

Until next time
