A life of simplicity 🙏🏽

Are you frugal, into green living, a recycler, a declutterer or downshifter?

Do you want to simplify your life, reduce your commitments, deepen your spiritual connections and live a less materialistic life?

Perhaps you are overwhelmed by the pace of life and seek more peace and solitude.

I have gone from shopping for pleasure in my 20’s to mostly buying good quality, secondhand clothes to replace worn out items throughout my 30’s and 40’s.

I quit a management role last year that required me to work every day of the week, including most evenings, to take on a role which is three days a week and resulted in 50% less pay but I am much happier and have a better work-life balance.

My kids love toys of course and we source most things secondhand at car-boot sales or charity shops. We are fortunate to receive some hand-me-down clothes for our toddler. As soon as they outgrow things, we pass them on or recycle / textile them and keep most our unwanted goods out of landfill.

We use freecycle to donate large items, hold car boot sales in the summer and give away many unwanted items to the school’s jumble sales. The kids join in with decluttering their toys and use the proceeds to buy other secondhand toys.

There is still a lot we can do to be more environmentally friendly, such as holidaying closer to home and buying more seasonal, local produce or growing more of our own but we feel that we are journeying towards a simpler, more holistic life.
