Crochetter/knitter's diary. Tips for beginners

in #crochet5 years ago

Since I sometimes teach beginners to crochet or knit, I noticed some common mistakes they do.

First of all, I recommend to keep a diary for your project where you will make all notes. It is not possible to keep everything in your mind. And after few days you can easily forget the things you learned.
If after you finish your project, you still have a yarn leftover and a label . Don't throw them away but keep in your diary. As the yarn can help you to differentiate various sizes and learn yarn differences and the label gives you all information about hook or needle sizes. As well as maintenance information

Secondly, when you start a new pattern, keep notes of each row, draw a scheme that is understandable for you. You don't have to draw it perfectly. Make a small sample to understand the pattern before starting a big project. So you know how to calculate the size by counting the number of loops for a knitting project. Write about each row what exactly you do since at the beginning it's hard to remember names of stiches.

Thirdly, it concerns mostly crochetters, you can easily crochet small granny squares with yarn leftovers that at the end you can transform into blankets, pillow cases etc.
You can keep patterns of granny squares that you can actually use granny square itself in stead of drawings

I hope this tips can help you to make the whole process simple and easy. 😊
