"As usage of Zerocoin blockchains increases, the amount of bandwidth, data and computation needed to create a zerocoin spend transaction also increases.

At the same time, an increasing number of users are using cryptocurrencies on their mobile devices, which has increased the demand for light clients. Light clients only store block headers and the user’s own transactions, and are not always online or synchronized. Therefore, they cannot practically obtain the data needed to create a zerocoin spend transaction.

We seek to address both these trends by creating a protocol which allows light nodes to outsource part of the zerocoin calculation to full nodes, without unduly compromising privacy for the light client user or the network as a whole."

PIVX is, like STEEM, a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) cryptocurrency. Their development of light nodes strikes me as an important solution to Steem's resource management issues. This would decentralise some of the functionality of full nodes, allowing some share of resources without having to download and maintain a full blockchain.

I am aware this is not a quick fix for Steem, but it must be noted that resource problems were always on the horizon with the growth in the size of the blockchain. It also means that long-term solutions may exist, but require investing in the future.

It means we could all one day be "light witnesses".
